Why should my daughter join a sorority?
Sorority life is not what you see in the movies--it is a basis for friendships and sisterhood that will make a lasting impact on your daughter for the rest of her life. At such an often emotional and changing part of her life, these steadfast bonds will help her fit into her college or university and will encourage her to get involved on her campus. In addition to the social aspects of Greek Life, your child will also be pushed to perform at the peak of their ability in academic excellence, leadership roles, and new and exciting experiences not found anywhere else. Your daughter will join a network of thousands of other bright and successful women across the world to help her get connections and assistance in starting her career and achieving her goals. She will have opportunities not found in any other organization on campus for leadership and philanthropy, both of which are great for her post-graduate resume.
How will joining a sorority affect my daughter's academic pursuits?
We strive to help every woman perform to the peak of her ability in all areas, especially in academics. Each collegiate chapter sets minimum scholastic standards for its members to maintain. The standard of performance is set by the National Policy Handbook of Sigma Kappa. This reflects Sigma Kappa’s belief that individual excellence develops chapter excellence. Sigma Kappa chapters are expected to provide leadership in academics as well as in other areas of campus life. Resources are available and encouraged to be used and include mandatory Study Hall hours for every member, programs on important topics such as time management and study skills, a Vice President of Scholarship devoted to helping every girl succeed, and sisters to motivate each other and make learning fun!
What is the financial obligation of joining a sorority or fraternity?
Each sorority and fraternity chapter operates on a budget. This budget comes from the dues that are paid to the sorority by its chapter members, and go towards sisterhood events, philanthropy events, shirts, national fees, and other operations.
All specific financial information and amounts will be given to the student during the recruitment process. We understand that finances are a major concern for most college students and that each girl's situation is unique, so we provide flexible and manageable payment plans, and will work with your student to find the plan that best fits them.
